Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" Is No. One On Billboard Hot 100

Tuesday, 26 Sep, 2017

Last week, Dancehallhiphop.com reported that Cardi B will overthrow Taylor Swift for the top spot on Billboard this week after "Bodak Yellow" shows strong sales over the past week. She's also the first Latina rapper to take No. 1 during Latinx Heritage Month.

Cardi B, a 24-year-old NY rapper signed to Atlantic Records, with just two mixtapes and a handful of features to her name, has just topped the Billboard Hot 100 with her breakout single "Bodak Yellow", a menacing, inescapable hit that's dominated streaming services and airwaves alike throughout the last three months. But for the moment, she's unchanged-at least ideologically.

Cardi's real name is Belcalis Almanzar.

Peep Nicki's tweet below.

The rapper, 24, had the flawless reaction to her chart-topping win this morning.

Cardi B has a No. 1 song with "Bodak Yellow".

"Bodak Yellow" was released back in June, and in August, it hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, under only "Wild Thoughts" and "Despacito".

If you're anxious that fame will change Cardi, a Love & Hip-Hop cast member who routinely let loose on Instagram, fair enough. She rode the Vine wave for a while and racked up a huge following, becoming the centre of amusing memes, gifs and tweets. She never fucking liked me. I was like living with his mama [and] two pit bulls in one bedroom.

She said the money she made from stripping also helped her pay for school. As long as she stays as grounded and amusing as she is now, her career stands to go a long way.

"Culture writer Ira Madison III noted in the Daily Beast: "'Bodak Yellow" is [also] refreshing in its candidness. Cole, Rihanna and Beyoncé.

She went on to thank fans for their support.

There were a couple of factors that pushed Cardi across the line.

One act noticeably absent from the list is Nicki Minaj, that has had big hits, but has not reached the number one position. Another choice line? "Got a bag and fixed my teeth / Hope you hoes know it ain't cheap". She recently reposted a message she recorded to anyone who judged her for it.

All hail queen Cardi and congrats!
