Thirty-two players were selected for the Team Canada's camp, which commences Dec. 13 and runs until Dec. 15 in St. Catharines, Ontario, before the final 23-man roster will head to Buffalo to compete in the 2018 World Junior Championships, beginning Dec. 26.

Forward Brett Stapley from the Vernon Vipers and defensemen Jonny Tychonick and Ryan O'Connell of the Penticton Vees were selected to join the roster.

MA freshmen defensemen Cale Makar and Mario Ferraro were selected for Team Canada's World Junior Championship selection camp roster, announced Wednesday afternoon by Hockey Canada.

Group B consists of Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belarus.

Barton, an 18-year-old smooth-skating defenceman, is in his first year in the BCHL and has five goals and 10 points in 28 games with the Smoke Eaters.

Team Canada East will open the tournament against Russian Federation in prime time on Sunday when the World Junior A Challenge returns to Atlantic Canada. Canada will play the United States in a preliminary-round game at New Era Stadium, home to the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, on December 29 at 3 p.m. ET.

"Hockey at all levels across the country continues to produce talented and elite-level hockey players that makes our evaluation and selection process a hard one", said Shawn Bullock, Hockey Canada's senior manager of hockey operations and men's national teams.

Point, who was not invited to Canada's World Junior Summer Camp, has had an incredible sophomore season with the Colgate Raiders posting a stingy 1.76 goals against and a solid.943 save percentage through 15 games this season. The team also won silver medals in 2008, 2009, and 2012, as well as bronze in 2013.
