Canadian men's Paralympic hockey team to be named today

Monday, 12 Feb, 2018

Greenway is one of three NCAA players who were selected to the United States' 2018 Olympic team, along with Harvard's Ryan Donato and Denver's Troy Terry. The most recognizable name may be Amanda Kessel, whose brother Phil is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and has represented Team USA in the past as well.

Kendall Coyne #26 of the United States celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal in the second period against Finland during the Women's Ice Hockey Preliminary Round - Group A game on day two of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games. "It's just been a lot of fun because we don't get a lot of time together, but it's incredible with technology you feel like you know these guys now, so it's been a lot of fun".

There are high expectations for Team USA, which enters the tournament having won three consecutive World Championships.

Slalom specialist Mikaela Shiffrin is the best in the world in her discipline. But I'd be lying if I thought that this would be a highlight of my career. Kind of an unsung hero back there, Lee Stecklein was really good. "I think that me going to the Olympics is a prime example of that".

Making it to the Olympics is an incredible feat on its own, but doing so before you're old enough to vote or after you've had kids is downright impressive.

US defenceman Kacey Bellamy, who will be playing in her third Olympics, said the team has to drop a recent tendency to force another pass rather than just shoot.

"Age is an interesting aspect of elite sport, and the impact of age on sports performance can vary greatly, dependent upon many variables", said Amber Donaldson, senior director of sports medicine clinics for the US Olympic Committee. I had to tell them to hold on and pump the brakes a little bit, cause the team's not announced yet... But they certainly seemed to be focused and ready to do what's needed.

Off the ice, Gionta leads a life similar to those of his non-Olympic counterparts. How do you think they're fitting in with the very accomplished veteran core? It was Sean Burke, the Olympic team's general manager, calling to tell him he was about to become an Olympian. The team on the ice Sunday was the faster team.

"These are memories that I'll have forever", he says. "Really a mindset, and I suspect you'll see that".

Many of the National Hockey League players are white, but Greenway was never phased and continued to play the sport he grew up loving.

That's a tough question. This is a different team than everyone saw four years ago. I think I've found a great niche here. We didn't know until this game started that Rooney was going to be the starting goaltender-we found out just a couple of hours before puck drop. The Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation are the favorites.

A two-week tournament in mid-February would generate plenty of interest, not just among non-hockey fans and casual fans, but among fans who have drifted away from their teams because they're already out of the playoff race. It's nearly an entirely different roster from Sochi with not very much experience. "I know we've got a great team with probably the best chemistry, the best group of girls that I've ever, ever had an opportunity to coach".

"I think most importantly, you don't see a lot of African Americans playing hockey", Greenway said. That smallish kid rejected on the snowy prairies of Canada would grow up to become the greatest US -born player, win three Stanley Cups with Montreal and Detroit, captain his hometown Blackhawks, and ascend to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I've been so lucky to play this game for as long as I have and to get to experience the things I've got to experience. What time you go to bed and wake up.

And there is no Soviet Union to play the villain this time.
