Jose Mourinho SLAUGHTERS Frank de Boer after Marcus Rashford criticism

Tuesday, 13 Mar, 2018

De Boer lasted only five matches at Crystal Palace before being sacked in September.

Rashford is set to feature in England's squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation and might be granted a more prominent role than expected as Gareth Southgate waits to find out the severity of the ankle injury Harry Kane suffered during Tottenham's 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

However, those numbers just aren't cutting the mustard with De Boer, who said it was a "pity" that Rashford is playing under Mourinho due to the restrictions the United boss puts on his players.

Frank De Boer's words come across as unusual due to the reality of the situation as Jose's love for the youngster has been publicly stated multiple times. What he was saying was not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win.

"If he was coached by Frank he would be coached how to lose because he lost every game", he said.

"I try to give the best to [Rashford]", Mourinho said. But Mourinho is not like that. Mourinho is aware of such history surrounding United and as long as Rashford's performances remain at a high level, he will continue to get opportunities. Rashford is Manchester-born, supports United and Reds fans see him as one of their own, another continuation of the club's proud tradition of giving young players a chance.

"Normally he's an English player, you want him given time, he can make mistakes".

Mourinho concedes United are not among the favourites for this year's Champions League but insists "anything is possible" if they can find a way past Sevilla. But when a team arrives in the last eight, anything can happen.

"When you are in the last-16 it looks really, really far but when you are in the last eight you start smelling semi-finals, the feeling is that you are amongst the best".

The Frenchman was absent during the part of Monday's training session observed by the media, but Mourinho said Pogba joined the workout after that and has not been completely ruled out. "It's something that you have got to accept".

Rashford was deadly at Old Trafford, grabbing both his goals within the first twenty minutes of action to set United up for smooth sailing for the rest of the match.
