Robert Whittaker vs Yoel Romero 2 targeted for UFC 225

In addition, CM Punk has recently announced via Twitter that he returns to the Octagon at UFC 225 in Chicago.

The pay-per-view event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight rematch featuring current title holder Robert Whittaker taking on top division contender Yoel Romero. That night, Whittaker proved to be the better man, earning a unanimous decision despite suffering an early leg injury. The Australian was then elevated to undisputed champion after Georges St. Pierre vacated the title.

A curious turn of events brought the MMA world back to this particular pairing. That's because Whittaker was forced off the UFC 221 card last month due to health concerns.

On his knockout of Luke Rockhold: "After the [Whittaker] fight, my manager said that when he saw me I had a big smile on my face". He botched his weight cut and came in almost three pounds over the contracted limit, but after Rockhold accepted the fight, Romero put on a dazzling performance that ended with fight-ending strikes in the third round.

For Romero (13-2), the Whittaker loss is the only blemish on his record since 2013. Or the eagerness to avenge his loss?

UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has locked in a familiar opponent for his potential debut title defence.

Therefore, Rockhold was the only eligible fighter in that fight to win the interim strap.

The finish set Romero up to be the next challenger to Whittaker, and according "The Solider of God" on today's edition of the "JRE MMA Show" podcast, the rematch is set for UFC 225, which takes place June 9 at United Center in Chicago.
