Sony announces 2018 headphone and speaker lineup, debuts truly wireless headphones

Sony India on Monday launched a new headphone series and "extra bass" Bluetooth speakers in India.

The new range of headphones include six new models - WI-C300, WH-CH400, WH-CH500, WI-SP500, WI-SP600N, and WF-SP700N. The headphones - WF-SP700N and WI-SP600N will become smarter with Google Assistant and will be optimized with an update. They are also waterproof and dust proof with an IP67 rating, the user can now party with speakers on the beach, at a pool party or even put them in the mud without worrying about damaging them. The earphones last 3 hours on a single charge and the included case provides an additional 6 hours of juice.

The WF-SP700N, WI-SP600N, WI-SP500, WI-C300, WH-CH400 and WH-CH500 devices are enabled with one-touch connectivity, NFC and Bluetooth while WF-SP700N and WI-SP600N will get Google Assistant integration and optimisation with an update. Out of these, the WF-SP700N is the world's first wireless splash-proof headphones with noise cancellation.

In the same series, there is the WI-SP600N and the SP500, which have a neckband design with an inbuilt microphone. Sony WH-CH400 (on the ear design) and WH-CH500 (over the ear design) offer up to 20 hours of backup while the WH-CH300 (neckband design) has up to 8 hours of battery life.

The WH-CH400 and WH-CH500 have on-ear and over-the-ear designs respectively.

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has unveiled its lineup of audio products in India for 2018. They offer a claimed battery life of up to eight hours and support NFC and Bluetooth 4.2. It has been priced at Rs. 15,990 and will be available starting May 15. The headphones also support Sony's Extra Bass sound that offers deeper bass in coordination with noise cancelling technology. These speakers are equipped with multi-colour line lights and focus on bass-heavy music and their "Party Booster" mode is said to enhance the beats by detecting tapping from 5 different directions curtesy its built-in accelerometer that generates a sound and lighting reaction. It has been priced at Rs. 9,990 and will be available from May 25. On the WI-SP500 the battery life of up to eight hours.
