High school sports stats and stars, April 14

In these small communities, boys and girls play together at lower levels and once they reach a certain age, both must find their own teams. Movassaghi had just three at bats in 2017. "We want more girls to play, we want more teams and more opponents and to have someone like Hannah help push that, it is tremendous".

A year ago, Lukenda, who now resides in Pewaukee, Wisc., won the national title in the long program. West's newest college football signee added approximately 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage to set the tone for an Honorable Mention All-District selection, and a West unit that went 10-2 on the year - a big turnaround from the 2016 season, which featured a 3-7 mark.

"I love them both and I think I chose to do track because of mainly the coaching, I'd say, and maybe the atmosphere".

"He's the cleaner one, I'm the messier one", Christian said. Becoming the first Golden Gopher to be named the Big Ten Player of the Year in over a decade, Santana also garnered First Team All-America honors. She will play on the South team and be coached by Willows High School coach Carol Martin.

The award recognizes coaches from 1A - 6A classifications from more than 200 high school programs around the state. Though she has no family background in the game, Lewis took up tennis in middle school. In everything, it's not just about me. I was one of the best, and I've never been one of the best at a sport. "I knew if I did what I can do, I'd have a pretty-good chance of doing well here".

These days she is playing volleyball, which has eaten into her time on the tennis court. "But you've got to play a clean game when you play against teams like that (Franklinville and North Collins) and you've got to take advantage of what they give you when they give it to you because there's not going to be a lot of opportunities offensively when they have their top guys going".

Aside from Johnson, the only other two losses for Lewis this year came against Lecanto sophomore Julia Javier. "I don't think there's anything that compares to it". "And my nerves have kind of calmed down, because I used to get really nervous". "They've just supported me as far as taking me to weightlifting and supporting me as far as my success has been concerned". "I just hope that he, first of all, goes and gets a great education".

"Ever since we were kids, he's kinda better at athletics", Christian said. "I am nearly there, I have a couple games left so hopefully I can push that out but I am really happy and proud of myself for it".

"It's a really good thing. Brandon played both sides of the ball, and was able to show up and make plays, game-in and game-out".

Moving forward, Lewis feels she needs to get better at coming to the net and gain consistency with a serve that has become more powerful.

Barbondy and players are now chomping at the bit to get started on getting the fields in shape for this year's season and have a work bee scheduled for Sunday, April 22 if anyone is looking to help out at the Esler Sports Complex slo-pitch fields.

The Eagles look to compete in the CCAA II East division against likely favorites Franklinville and North Collins, who boast strong pitching staffs, along with Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Frewsburg and Pine Valley.
