Man City confirmed as champions as rivals United lose

Just a week after winning at City, Jose Mourinho's team could not even avoid defeat against the Premier League's bottom club to keep their neighbours waiting a while longer to claim the title.

Manchester City were crowned champions of England on Sunday evening, after West Bromwich Albion shocked the footballing world by securing a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Chelsea scored 103 goals in 2009-10, and City have so far scored 93 times.

Pep Guardiola made it league titles in three different countries after his Manchester City side wrapped up the Premier League title.

"It's incredible the way we played and I am so glad to be here and be part of this club", he said on the club's website.

Peter Schmeichel was the league's best goalkeeper, Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister provided a rock-solid foundation in defence, while Roy Keane arrived from Nottingham Forest for a British record fee to form a formidable midfield partnership with Paul Ince.

Manchester City could still lose the Premier League title although the outcome of the season remains firmly in their hands, manager Pep Guardiola has said ahead of Saturday's trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Captain Vincent Kompany, meanwhile, wants City's title triumph to be the first of many as he targets total domination under Guardiola. "It's more hard [to win in England]".

Guardiola's side missed the chance to seal the title when they lost 3-2 at home to bitter rivals United last week, either side of two Champions League quarter-final defeats to Liverpool, and the Spaniard believes his side could still be vulnerable.

"It differs because we were consistent the whole season, that level expected of us".

Winning titles in every league is important, with Barcelona was special.

'I think winning at Stamford Bridge gave us the confidence, ' said Guardiola.

The 2012 title win had the infamous last-gasp goal by Sergio Aguero.

"It's fantastic. The first time you win it, you think you'll win all of them".

'Against Tottenham [the players] showed me how strong they were. "Probably because I won eight championships, I was not in the moon with the victory against them because that doesn't make me feel super happy".
