One policeman was killed and 4 militants were shot dead in an attack on a police headquarters in Riau province of Indonesia on Wednesday, police said.

Yet another suspected terrorist attack occurred in Indonesia this morning - the first since the explosions in five sites in East Java on Sunday and Monday - this time the target being the Riau Provincial Police headquarters in the Riau capital of Pekanbaru.

The fifth suspect was later arrested, he added.

A footage showed that a man lying on the ground with a sword next to his body.

The police shot two of them, Doddy said. "One of them is being checked by a bomb squad", he was quoted by Kompas TV as saying, referring to a suspected bomb strapped to the militant's body.

Indonesia's deadliest terror attack was in 2002 on the tourist island of Bali when nightclub bombings killed 202 people, mostly foreigners.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for both attacks. Suddenly the militants exited the auto and immediately stage strikes with swords against policemen, provincial police spokesman Sunarto said. Media were at the station to cover a press conference about a drug bust when the attack happened.

In addition to the two injured cops, one police officer killed after getting hit by suspected terrorists' vehicle, one journalist injured, four perpetrators killed while at least one is on the run.

The church bombing family - whose father was named a local JAD leader - and two other families linked to this week's attacks knew each other and were part of the same Koran study group, police said.
