Sean Miller, other UA coaches cheer on Wildcats women's golf team

It has been an exhausting ride. Arizona defeated Alabama, 3-2.

"Arizona is my home", Ianello told the Golf Channel's Steve Burkowski on the 18th green moments after Moore's putt fell into the bottom of the cup.

Hou teed off first, and went back and forth on the front nine, with neither competitor able to take the lead.

The championship is the third in program history and the first since 2000 when Ianello was a member of the team. If Olson finishes second or lower in the 144-player field, she will enjoy an off week with her husband, Grant, who coaches linebackers at Indiana State. For one thing, it exposes weak spots in a lineup. Arizona doesn't have any of those, and it's a big reason why, after six marathon days at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., the Wildcats have a trophy. They looked a lock for the eight-team bracket in Round 3, only to drop six shots in the closing holes.

The Illini are poised to get back to the match play portion.

In the quarterfinals against UCLA, the matches were tied at 2 when Pagdanganan hammered a mid-iron out of the rough and onto the green, setting up a two-putt birdie that Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA couldn't match. The Illini play 18 holes on Friday and then another 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday to see which top 15 teams advance to the final round on Monday.

"I'll make the best of it either way, " she said.

"I think the three of us have kind of spurred each other on to play better golf, just to keep getting better every day, whether it's competing out on the course or practicing together", Bauchou said. The two remained squared at the turn, where Hou went on to win four consecutive holes. First, Cheyenne Knight, Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman were named first-team All-Americans. It's the best feeling in the world. Arizona takes on Alabama at 12:30 p.m. today in a match play format. Gillman did not trail in any match. Moore's early-week play gave a window into how she might approach match play. "I think we'll hit in play, even if we have to back down to a 3-wood". All along, Moore thought match play would be more exciting than stroke play because it would allow for more strategy and aggressive play, under the right circumstances.

"It definitely felt the same as Monday", Moore said.

"For us it's just kind of the culmination of a lot of hard work, a lot of really good play".

After playing for Gonzaga for two years, Pagdanganan joined Arizona whose products include LPGA greats Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa. It's what you want.
