Two people are reportedly injured after a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School Indiana.

Jowitt said the shooting was reported shortly after 9 a.m.

The incident occurred a week after a 17-year-old high school student in Santa Fe, Texas, near Houston shot and killed eight classmates and two teachers, the latest in a string of deadly shootings at US schools.

Police were monitoring the situation and there is no evidence to suggest the threat is credible, Jowitt said.

She says she was at work Friday morning when her son sent a text message about the shooting, stunning her.

However, while police examined the threat, the high school remained on lockdown.

"Well, my ex-wife called me and she was hysterical and couldn't even talk", he said. One teen was taken to Riley Hospital, while an adult was taken to IU Health-Methodist in Indianapolis, Police Chief Kevin Jowitt told WTHR.

A student at an IN middle school says he saw his science teacher tackle a fellow student who fired shots inside the classroom.

There was a communicated threat to Noblesville High School this morning, but it appears the threat was unfounded, Jowitt said.

In a statement obtained by WTTV, Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill said the "epidemic of violence sweeping across American schools has now come to Indiana". Eighth-grader Chris Navarro said he was inside an auditorium when he counted hearing 16 gunshots about a minute before the bell rang for the change in classes.

An active shooting suspect has been detained at Noblesville West Middle School.

Noblesville West Middle school has 1,346 students.

"Karen and I are praying for the victims of the bad shooting in IN", he said.

"I'm always telling my kids that I believe that they need to have daily school searches and not let them carry backpacks", she said.

After the attack, students were bused to the Noblesville High School gym, where hundreds of parents and other family members arrived to retrieve them. The school's academic year was scheduled to end next Friday. She had no information on the victims' ages or the seriousness of their injuries.

Vice President Mike Pence, who was governor of IN before becoming vice president, offered his thoughts and prayers to Noblesville West Middle School. The attack comes a week after an attack at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, that killed eight students and two teachers, and months after the school attack that killed 17 people in Parkland, Florida.

Aerial footage shows a shocking and chaotic scene, with students evacuating the building with their hands raised and panicked parents desperately searching for their children.
