Kudlow doubled down on blaming Trudeau in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation" later Sunday morning when he said the prime minister "picked a fight" and left Trump no choice but to pull out of the group's communique. "And then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door".
Kudlow said Trudeau "stabbed us in the back" and "did a great disservice to the whole G7" with his "amateur political stunt".
"If the expectation was that a weekend in attractive Charlevoix....was going to transform the president's outlook on trade and the world, then we didn't quite reach that bar", Trudeau said. In response to USA duties, Canada has already issued its own tariff threats, which Trudeau said would go into effect on July 1.
In a flurry of tweets from Air Force One, en route to Singapore for a historic summit with North Korea's Kim Jong-un, Trump accused Justin Trudeau, Canada's prime minister and host of the summit in Quebec, of being "very dishonest".
"Not to sign a statement of solidarity, which stands for everything that we stand for, is a big mistake", Feinstein said.
"I personally negotiated with Prime Minister Trudeau", Mr. Kudlow said.
"Canada does not conduct its diplomacy through ad hominem attacks", Freeland said.
In his press conference, Trudeau had spoken of retaliatory measures that Canada would take next month in response to Trump's decision to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
"And so began a long litany of recriminations, somewhat bitter reports that the United States was treated unfairly, that the trading system was totally unfavorable to the United States, the American economy, American workers, the middle class", the official said.
Pierre Lampron, the president of Dairy Farmers of Canada, shot back at Trump's claims about his industry. He also said he would be looking to impose tariffs on auto imports into the United States.
Justin Trudeau and President Trump participate in the working session at the G7 summit on Friday.
"The nature of the debate we had was rather appeasement and it stopped the escalation in terms of behaviour", Macron, who had exchanged terse Twitter messages with Trump in the run-up to the summit, told reporters. "Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn't", he wrote.
It appears that US President Donald Trump managed to make headlines at the G7 summit not only with his words and actions, but also with his appearance as well. "But it did not start with this G7, but with the election of Donald Trump", said a European official. President Trump had shown up late, suggested Russian Federation rejoin the alliance over his allies' objections, harangued leaders over supposedly unfair trade practices, and generally acted as a one-man diplomatic wrecking ball.
