"Atletico de Madrid and AS Monaco have achieved a preliminary agreement over the transfer of Thomas Lemar to our club", for the definitive transfer", the Spanish club said of the 22-year old.

Lemar is now on worldwide duty with France at the World Cup, and will link up with his new team-mates after the tournament once the deal is officially confirmed.

But Griezmann has remained tight-lipped on his decision, refusing to reveal his future destination just yet.

"We understand there won't be easy matches at the World Cup for us", the Atletico Madrid star told French sports daily L'Equipe.

The France forward, who scored 29 goals and created 15 others last season, was strongly linked with Manchester United last summer before a contract tying him to Atletico until 2022 was agreed.

Messi is still in search of his first World Cup triumph, and where Argentina finish this summer may determine his future with the national team.

"I know there's a lot of expectation, I know many were waiting for it, but today is not the day (to speak about my future). I think we will find out this week".

It is believed that Griezmann will accept a deal that will make him the club's highest-paid player following a massive campaign by manager Diego Simeone and the rest of the staff urging him to stay. "The decision has been taken but it is not the time or the place to talk about it", he said.

Everything is pointing to Griezmann signing for Barca after the World Cup...
