Microsoft's $399 Surface Go is its smallest tablet yet

While Surface Go doesn't have a fingerprint reader, it has something arguably better - a Windows Hello camera. It is available for pre-order in a few countries starting July 10 and will start shipping on August 2. The standard Surface Go Type Cover keyboard will run you $99.99, and it will cost you an extra $99.99 for Surface Pen. There's no word on the Surface Go's availability in India. This is a 10-inch tablet with optional keyboard cover and stylus and it costs from $399. If you take a look at the keyboard, Microsoft has included a trackpad large enough to hold an Olympic-sized swimming pool with full support for gestures as well.

"When we designed this device, we had to ask ourselves what people want and need from a 10" Surface", Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay wrote in a blog announcing the device.

The processor is an Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y, which is a rather meager Kaby Lake chip.

Sales from Microsoft's Surface line increased 32 percent in its most recent quarter, but the series of tablets and laptops still lag behind market leader Apple's iPad and MacBook series (which has faced its own struggles). The tradeoff for all these features is battery life: Microsoft expects the Surface Go to get up to 9 hours of battery life, which is less than estimates for the Surface Laptop (14.5 hours), Surface Pro (13.5 hours), and Surface Book (17 hours). Still, that's $100 less than the Surface 3 started at, making it the cheapest of Microsoft'sdevices in this lineup yet. When it launches on August 2, the Surface Go's base model will come with 4GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage, though this can be upgraded to 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, raising the price to $549. Other rumors include the loss of the proprietary Surface connector, in favor of USB-C and "rounded edges". Still, all of the previous leaks and reports seem to point to this being the rumored $400 Surface tablet.

Surface Go will run versions of Windows 10 and Office apps.

The aforementioned variants of the Microsoft Surface Go only support Wi-Fi connectivity for internet.

Finally, we should note that the Surface Go is not now offered with 4G LTE support and you can only get a Wi-Fi one, while iPads are offered in both styles. While I have not fully tested the battery on the Surface Go, I would put real-world usage at around 6 hrs based on my experience with other Surface devices.
