Houston Instagram model bit by nurse shark in the Bahamas

Zarutskie - a Laguna Beach resident - was on vacation with her boyfriend and his family in the Bahamas and looking for the ideal Instagram shot.

Katarina Zarutskie, 19, got the scare of her life when the nursing student was bitten by a nurse shark.

The outlet said her boyfriend's father was taking a photo of her as she floated near the sharks when one of them attacked.

But while posing for the pictures a shark bit into the model's wrist and held her underwater for several seconds.

You see, Katarina grew up in a surfing community in Southern California and has no fear of sharks, which is why she was so calm about swimming with them.

"I've been on so many different medications", she said. She claims she did not plan to post the photos to Instagram in the first place-and her account has, at the time of writing, gone private.

"I think if someone was screaming and flailing around it definitely could have changed the situation".

The bite will leave a nasty scar, but the model says she feels blessed that the situation was not far worse.

Thankfully she was okay and just had to get stitches and antibiotics for her injuries, though she does still have some fragments of teeth left in the wounds. She's been accused of being a dumb blonde who is obsessed with social media.

Melissa Brunning was hand-feeding a group of tawny nurse sharks on the back of a boat in Dugong Bay, in WA's far north, when one latched on and nearly took off her finger. I know he mistook me.

Speaking to NBC News on Monday, Zarutskie said she had heard from locals that swimming with nurse sharks was risk free. She went to the hospital to get treatment for her infected wounds.

A Perth woman was also attacked by nurse sharks last month with vision of the attack caught on camera.
