The Greenbrier: Kevin Na cruises to second PGA Tour title

Wednesday, 11 Jul, 2018

Kevin Na has spent plenty of his career second-guessing himself as much as the golfing world has scratched its collective head wondering why a player so talented was not winning more golf tournaments.

Brandt Snedeker (who climbed 18 spots on the strength of a final-round 64) and Jason Kokrak (67) tied for third at 12 under.

In his first win since the 2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, Na lapped the field by five strokes, finishing the week at 19 under.

In addition to DeChambeau, who has seven top-10 finishes this year on Tour, former event champions Ryan Moore (2016), Zach Johnson (2012), and Stricker (2009, 2010, 2011) will be playing this year.

As Na was waiting to be interviewed by CBS Sports after the win, he received a text from Tiger Woods.

"I've been close so many times".

"I wasn't sure if it was going to come again".

Kraft said he struggled judging the speed of his putts.

"It's nice to get that second trophy", Na said. "Hopefully I get this done". I was right there, things were just happening, and for some reason I just felt like it was my day.

"It's undescribable. The amount of close calls I've had and disappointments I've had, walking off the 18th hole in the locker room, on the drive back to the hotel". "I mean, I had a handsome, lovely tee shot. It was well worth it". Varner III posted a 66 to share the lead with Kraft, who carded a mere 69, at 14-under.

His spectacular third shot from the rough on the par-four 11th, which he pitched in from 40 feet out, drew the biggest response of the day from the West Virginia crowd.

The top four players not already exempt among the top 12 finishers will earn spots in the British Open at Carnoustie starting July 19. He amassed 17 top-five's since that win before breaking through this week at the Greenbrier. Snedeker missed the event previous year with an injury, so this was a massive closing kick for him to get back to Carnoustie. "It's why I play golf - all the practice days, all the misses, all the bad moments, all are taken care of with putts like that".

"I don't even know what to say", added Mickelson later on. "I'm not trying to play prefect golf, I'm just trying to see targets and have fun with it".

Bubba Watson, in search of his fourth win of the season, dropped into a tie for 13th with a final-round 2-over 72.

By the end of Friday's second round, though, the top of the leaderboard had thinned out a little bit. Because there's going to be something that happens tomorrow where I can learn and I can grow and I can get a lot better.
